DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n\nThirty-first Annual IUN Forum on \nChild Abuse & Neglect\nPartnering for the Power of Prevention with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana\nFour Fridays in April — April 9\, 2021 – April 30\, 2021\nListed here is the entire Webinar Series – To see the entire Event Brochure\, click here\n  \nThe 2021 IUN Forum has gone virtual\, again.  This year we will offer morning webinars on four Fridays in April beginning with our opening plenary on April 9.  Please note all times are Central time. \nThe opening and closing sessions will describe national (Thriving Families\, Safer Children) and state (Strategic Framework for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) partnership efforts that are currently underway with the goal of strengthening families and reimagining child well-being systems. These initiatives have strong parent involvement in decision-making built in. Prevention professionals know that parents are the most important partners to have on board. \nAlso\, in the spirit of partnership\, the IUN Forum planning committee is working closely with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana (PCAIN) on two sessions this year and is encouraging our regular attendees to participate in the PCAIN / DCS Child Abuse Prevention Kickoff events on April 1st.  Joint events with PCAIN include a session on Fatherhood with an internationally known specialist on the topic\, Dr. Kyle Pruett (who touts parenting partnerships) and a webinar on LGBTQ+ issues featuring a partnership of two state experts\, one from central Indiana\, Jay Watts (she/they)\, and our own region’s long-time forum favorite\, Natalie Lukich\, LGBTQ Program Coordinator and Supervisor Crown Counseling Services. \n  \nApril 9\, 2021 — Opening Plenary Webinar\n9:00 – 9:30 am (EDT)   Welcome / Introductions / Guest Presentations \nWelcome: IUN Chancellor Ken Iwama \nSpecial Guests: Sharon Pierce\, President & CEO\, The Villages / Prevent Child Abuse Indiana\, and Sarah Sailors\, Deputy Director – Field Operations\, Indiana DCS \n9:30 – 11:00 am (EDT) Keynote Address / Q&A  ACE’s\, OK\, What Now?\nStacey Gagnon\, Trainer\, Speaker\, and Director\, Trauma Lens Care — Stacey Gagnon\, nationally known speaker\, foster mom\, adoptive mom\, blogger\, educator\, trainer\, and co-founder of Trauma Lens Care https://traumalenscare.org/ answers the question posed in the title of her presentation. What happens after we have learned about adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s) and determined that the person in front of us has experienced numerous ACEs? How do we carry out the recommended trauma-informed approach?  How do we take the science of ACEs and translate it into action in support of those with high numbers of ACEs? \n\n\nApril 16th  9:00 – 10:30 am (EDT) – Can Engaging Fathers Improve Child Outcomes or Not? Kyle Pruett\, MD\, Clinical Professor of Child Psychiatry\, Child Study Center\, Yale University School of Medicine \nIn this session\, presented in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana\, Dr. Kyle Pruett reports on his years of study focused on whether engaging fathers improves outcomes for children. \n  \n  \nApril 23rd  9:00 – 10:30 am (EDT)  – Creating LGBTQ+ Affirming and Empowering Child Welfare Spaces / Natalie Lukich\, LGBTQ Program Coordinator and Supervisor Crown Counseling Services and Jay Watts (she\, they)\, Vice President of Equity and Impact National Domestic Violence Hotline and President\, Diversifirm Group\, LLC\nIn this session\, presented in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana\, two LGBTQ+ experts present a detailed review of ways to affirm and empower LGBTQ youth in the child welfare system.  The presenters will detail this research and address the difficulties faced by LGBTQ youth including the special challenges faced by LGBTQ youths of color.  The session will conclude with a panel discussion with LGBTQ youth. \n  \n  \nApril 30th  9:00 – 10:30 am (EDT)  Closing Plenary “Growing a Better Tomorrow for All Children” Melissa Merrick\, PhD\, President and CEO\, Prevent Child Abuse America\nThis session will provide a description of the thinking behind the Thriving Families\, Safer Children initiative\, a ground-breaking effort led by the US Children’s Bureau\, Prevent Child Abuse America\, the Annie E.
