Child Exploitation 101 Training

This event is hosted by Prevent Child Abuse Indiana

This interactive, prevention-focused training is designed for community members, professionals, and nonprofit organizations who work with children, youth, and families. The session centers on building awareness, dispelling common myths, and strengthening participants’ ability to recognize, prevent, and respond to child exploitation within their communities.

Through scenario-based discussions, real-world examples, live polling, and guided reflection, participants explore essential human trafficking concepts, including:

  • Types of human trafficking, including labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and the commercial sexual exploitation of children
  • The prevalence of trafficking and how it occurs in both urban and rural communities
  • Who is most vulnerable to trafficking, how individuals are recruited, and why leaving can be difficult
  • Common myths and misconceptions that often prevent identification and reporting
  • Recognizing warning signs and indicators across various settings
  • Appropriate response strategies, reporting options, and local/national resources

This training emphasizes awareness, prevention, and informed response rather than fear-based messaging. Participants will gain practical tools to better identify risk factors, engage in trauma-informed conversations, and understand their role in prevention and reporting.

Participants will leave with clear, actionable knowledge and resources that can be applied immediately in professional, volunteer, and community-based roles.
