Prevent Child Abuse Indiana (PCAIN) is dedicated to being the leading voice for preventing child abuse in all its forms across Indiana.
Our Vision
The vision of PCAIN is to make Indiana a state in which children flourish free from abuse and neglect.

Our History
- 1977 Prevent Child Abuse Indiana Incorporated as 501c3
- 1986 Governor Orr proclaims April as Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Awareness Month
- 1994 Healthy Families Indiana is launched as a Statewide Voluntary Home Visitation Program
- 1994 HB1400 Passed to Create Kids First Trust Fund
- 2006 Legislation Established to Develop a Child Fatality Review Program in Indiana
- 2003 Indiana Established Frameworks for Child Fatality Review Teams
- 2007 Prevent Child Abuse Indiana Becomes a Division of The Villages of Indiana.
- 2011 Statewide calls for Prevention Councils begin.
- 2012 Indiana’s Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) started as a pilot program.
- 2013 County run Child Fatality Review Teams Required in all Indiana Counties.
- 2014 Indiana’s Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) is expanded with access sites in all 92 counties.
- 2018 the Child Abuse Prevention Sub-Committee of the Commission on Improving the Status of Children begins work to develop a statewide child abuse prevention framework
- 2019 Strengthening Indiana Families Project Launched to Create Family Resource Centers Across the State.
- 2022 Indiana’s Supportive Communities, Resilient Families, Thriving Children: Indiana’s Framework for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect. Community Implementation Toolkit is Released.
- 2023 kNot Today begins the Indiana Prevention Education Coalition.
- 2025 Eyes on the Child Campaign Launched with a Focus on Water and Internet Safety.
