Council Spotlight – PCA St Joseph County

Everyone

Prevent Child Abuse Indiana wants to shine the spotlight on Prevent Child Abuse St. Joseph County, whose continued fundraising has helped surrounding counties receive grants to assist in efforts to prevent child abuse. During the month of June, PCA St. Joseph County co-hosted a golf outing on the sixth, and their annual Roofsit throughout the entire week of June 19, 2023.

The 27th annual Roofsit consisted of bands, cookies and canvas, and dance parties. During the week volunteers sit on the top of the local grocery store to raise money. Every hour the local radio station interviews various people in the community relating to the work they do to prevent child abuse along with sponsors. The Council offers community members to be Roofsit Guardians with a donation of $20 a month for 12 months through their website.

Roofsit began in 1996 when the team at the U93 radio station wanted to help victims of child abuse. The team spent a week on a local business rooftop, day and night! They stayed on-air, sharing letters, emails, phone calls and personal interviews with survivors of abuse. Donations poured in to help educate the community and provide counseling services for victims and survivors. Roofsit has evolved into a week-long event on the ground with various activities throughout the week for the community to enjoy. PCA of St. Joseph County, U93, Martin’s Super Markets, and Youth Service Bureau team up to make this a successful annual fundraiser. To date, over 3 million dollars has been raised to assist abuse survivors and educate the public on how to stop the cycle of violence. Funds raised are distributed via grants to child and family serving agencies in the U93 listening area.

Congratulations Prevent Child Abuse St Joseph County!!!
